Russula redolens Burlingham.
Cap 2.5-8cm across, flattened to depressed; deep bluish green, gray-green often with a whitish bloom at margin; viscid when wet; cuticle peels halfway or more. Gills crowded, forking near stem; pale yellow. Stem 30-80 x 10-l5mm; white; dry, dull. Flesh white, sometimes slightly graying. Odor strong when old of parsley or celery. Taste mild to unpleasant (not hot). Spores ellipsoid, 6-8 x 4.5-6µ; warts up to 1 W high, isolated. Deposit pale cream (B). Habitat under broadleaved and conifer trees. Rather uncommon. Apparently widespread in eastern North America. Season August-September. Edibility not known.
